Trivia Friday IV

Tomorrow is the 200th birthday of a Hungarian composer famous for his virtuosic skill as a pianist. He was also a well known composer, piano teacher and conductor. Who is he?

He is Franz (Ferenc) Liszt. Born on October 22, 1811, he became one of Hungary’s most celebrated musicians. The largest and best-known portion of Liszt’s music is his original piano music.

One of my favourite Liszt pieces

October 22 has been declared World Liszt Day with performances around the world. And Budapest is no different as they’re gearing up for quite the celebration over the weekend with performances of his works at various concert halls and churches including the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and St. Stephen’s Basilica. I tried getting tickets to see a concert, but they were either sold out or ridiculously expensive.

A testament to Liszt’s virtuosic skill

I haven’t been to the Liszt museum yet, but I think it time I pay the museum a visit!

Update: 22 October 2011

I’m pretty happy that Google has a doodle up for Liszt!
