Photo of the Week: Violation Fine

The intern community is all a buzz because everyone has noticed the sudden increase in the violation fine on all transit vehicles. In 2011, the fine for not having a valid ticket was 6000 HUF (approx $30), but overnight, the fine has been upped to 16 000 HUF (or roughly $80). Its a massive jump!

There are many theories circulating around. Some are joking that the BKV needs more money because the forint is worthless. Others think that all they did was stick on an extra one in front to save money in printing new stickers.

But regardless of how and why, the fine is ridiculously high. Better be carrying your pass when taking transit in Budapest!
