Trivia Friday V

Tomorrow evening in Budapest there is an event called the Night of the Baths. 5 of the baths in Budapest will be open until late with live music, DJs, and performances. I’m considering going, but we’ll see. Its so cold at night and I’m not sure how I would enjoy running around with wet hair in negative degree weather.

These 5 baths featured are the biggest ones in Budapest. But there are a number more which brings me to today’s question:

How many thermal springs are there in Budapest? How did these baths come about?

There are 123 thermal springs in Budapest. The bath culture goes back to Roman times when Aquincum, the Roman city that stood where Budapest currently stands, had as many as 14 bath houses. Most of the baths were built by the Turkish during their occupation of this region.
